Tech Dining Meal Plan Exemption Process

Tech Dining is committed to supporting students with documented dietary restrictions and religious practices that may impact their ability to fully utilize their meal plan. Students may request an exemption through a structured review process designed to ensure fairness, clarity, and appropriate accommodation.

Step 1

How to Apply   Students must submit a written request through the Tech Dining ticketing system .

Your request should include:

  • A detailed description of your dietary restrictions
  • Any religious practices that require specific dietary accommodations
  • Relevant documentation (optional but helpful) - DO NOT provide any HIPAA protected medical documentation

What happens next:   Your request enters the first round of review.

Step 2: Dietitian Consultation

After submitting your request, you will be scheduled to meet with Tech Dining’s Dietician.

During this meeting, the Dietician will:

  • Review your dietary or religious needs
  • Assess whether accommodations can be made within existing meal plan options
  • Consult with the Culinary Director if adjustments may be necessary

Outcome:   A determination will be made regarding whether Tech Dining can meet your needs through current offerings.

Appeal Process: First Round

If you believe your request requires further consideration, you may submit an appeal.

How to appeal:   Email the Director of Customer Experience requesting a second review.

What happens next:   The Director will gather all relevant information and submit your case to the Exemption Appeal Committee, which includes representatives from:

  • Housing & Residence Life
  • Campus Services Customer Support Team
  • Dean of Students Office
  • Legal
  • Auxiliary & Finance

Committee Structure:

  • Chaired by the Director of Customer Experience (non‑voting member)
  • Committee reviews all documentation and determines whether an exemption is warranted

Timeline:   Students will receive a written decision within two weeks of submitting their appeal.

Appeal Process: Final Round

If you feel your request still requires further review, you may submit a final appeal to:

AVP of Campus Services

Final Appeal Review Includes:

  • Evaluation of your request
  • Review of the Appeal Committee’s decision
  • Independent determination by the AVP or a designated Appeal Officer

This decision is final.
